these were sliced while the clay was raw (with a sharp blade and cooled extrusion), but they could also have been sliced while the warm after baking the whole extrusion to keep all the tips really pointed

kludy way I figured out to press clay though a metal icing tip without a bag/etc... the top end of the icing tip shows (with clay extrusion coming out); it's held inside a PVC tip connector (female/female, I think), then screwed into another PVC connector (male/female), and a wood dowel is used as the pusher from below... now clayalley.com sells an adapter for (reg. size) metal icing tips so that they can be connected to a clay gun for $5 or so
